Vipin Bansal, M.D.

Dr. Vipin Bansal, Interventional Radiologist, has been with RAS since 1998. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. Dr. Bansal, a leader in minimally-invasive, image-guided treatments and procedures, completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at UCLA Medical Center immediately followed with a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. During his fellowship, Dr. Bansal was trained extensively in Uterine Artery Embolizations (UAE/UFE) and later helped to bring this innovative technology to the Sacramento region. In his spare time, Dr. Bansal enjoys basketball and skiing.

Larry Cardoza, M.D.

Dr. Larry J. Cardoza is a board certified Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon with more than 30 years of experience. A native of Sacramento, Dr. Cardoza earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 1966. After completing his internship at San Francisco General Hospital he served for three years as a US Air Force Flight Surgeon. He then completed a residency in General Surgery at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California and went on to complete a residency in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After practicing in Salinas, California, Dr. Cardoza moved back to Sacramento and has been in practice here for 20 years. He joined RAS in 2008 with a vision to provide quality integrated Thoracic and Vascular Surgery services through one entity - the RAS Northern California Thoracic and Vascular Institute. In his free time, Dr. Cardoza enjoys golfing and travel.

Mark Davidian, M.D.

Dr. Mark Davidian joined RAS in 2007 after spending nearly 10 years at the Miami Vascular Institute. He is well published having authored many journal articles andbook chapters. Among his peers, Dr. Davidian is regarded as an expert in precision and in fact, is nationally recognized for his teaching and proctoring of vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. Dr. Davidian is an avid backcountry skier and hiker. He and his wife, as well as their three daughters love to travel.

Lotfi Hacein-Bey, M.D.

Dr. Lotfi Hacein-Bey, a board-certified neuroradiologist and interventional neuroradiologist, earned his medical degree at the Algiers Institute for Medical Sciences in Algiers, Algeria, where he completed internships in Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hacein-Bey went on to complete a residency in Radiology at St. Louis Hospital and the University of Paris VII in Paris, France, where he also received post-doctoral training in Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Gynecology and Contraception. Dr. Hacein-Bey then completed subspecialty fellowships in Neuroradiology and Interventional Neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Highly regarded for his clinical expertise, Dr. Hacein-Bey is frequently invited to lecture at scientific meetings nationally and internationally. He is widely published and has held several academic appointments at top ranking national institutions. Since 2005, he has been a recipient of the Best Doctors in America award (2005-2006, 2007-2008 and 2009-2010), and was recognized in 2007 as one of America’s Top Radiologists.

Patrick Harty, M.D.

Patrick Harty, M.D., RAS' IR section head, has been instrumental in introducing a number of high tech, imaging-guided IR procedures to the greater Sacramento. Dr. Harty, who attended Jesuit High School, and his wife a nurse practitioner and St. Francis High School graduate, have twin daughters. He enjoys CrossFit and Road Cycling and is admired for his energetic and enthusiastic approach to patient care.

Christopher Laing, M.D.

Dr. Christopher Laing joined RAS in 2008 after completion of an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at the University of Illinois in Peoria. He is a Board Certified Radiologist and was the recipient of the 2007 Radiological Society of North America Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award. Areas of interest include Uterine Fibroid Embolization, minimally invasive regional cancer therapy and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Dr. Laing, a native of Canada, immigrated to the US in 1997 and when not spending time with his wife and daughter enjoys hockey, skiing, golf and SCUBA.

Mylon Marshall, M.D.

Dr. Mylon Marshall is a board certified interventional radiologist with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He earned his medical degree at the University of Southern California and completed his residency and fellowship at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Marshall recently was awarded the Patient's Choice Award 2008. Of the nations 720,000 active physicians, less than 5% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2008.

Bahram Varjavand, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Bahram Varjavand, affectionately known to his patients and staff as Dr. V, has been a local front runner in the treatment of stroke, cerebral aneurysm and neurointerventional medicine since joining RAS in 2004. He earned his medical degree and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gene Therapy/Molecular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Board certified in Radiology, Dr. Varjavand also holds a Ph.D and has completed multiple fellowships at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center in Interventional Neuroradiology, Stroke Neurology, Neurosurgery and Diagnostic Neuroradiology. Dr. Varjavand is considered one of the country's leading authorities in stroke research and has been instrumental in advancing the use of innovative treatments and techniques -- including brain mapping through the use of functional MRI (fMRI) -- to the community.

Patrick Vogel, M.D.

Dr. Patrick Vogel is credited with bringing Interventional Radiology to the Sacramento area and is highly regarded among healthcare providers and patients alike for his advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. Using image-guidance, Dr. Vogel offers minimally invasive treatment procedures to residents of the greater Sacramento area. Dr. Vogel is a subspecialty trained, boardcertified interventional radiologist with more than 20 years experience in the field. He enjoys recreational cycling, building furniture and gardening.
